Abelian Unipotent Subgroups of Reductive Groups

چکیده

Let G be a connected reductive group defined over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic p > 0. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, when p is a good prime, we give a new proof of the “order formula” of D. Testerman for unipotent elements in G; moreover, we show that the same formula determines the p-nilpotence degree of the corresponding nilpotent elements in the Lie algebra g of G. Second, if X is a p-nilpotent element (an element of p-nilpotence degree 1) in g, we show that G always has a representation V for which the exponential homomorphism Ga → GL(V ) determined by X factors through the action of G. This property permits a simplification of the description given by Suslin, Friedlander, and Bendel of the (even) cohomology ring for the higher Frobenius kernels Gd, d ≥ 2.

On Normal Abelian Subgroups in Parabolic Groups

Let G be a reductive algebraic group, P a parabolic subgroup of G with unipotent radical Pu, and A a closed connected unipotent subgroup of Pu which is normalized by P. We show that P acts on A with nitely many orbits provided A is abelian. This generalizes a well-known niteness result, namely the case when A is central in Pu. We also obtain an analogous result for the adjoint action of P on in...

Intersections of Translated Algebraic Subtori

We exploit the classical correspondence between finitely generated abelian groups and abelian complex algebraic reductive groups to study the intersection theory of translated subgroups in an abelian complex algebraic reductive group, with special emphasis on intersections of (torsion) translated subtori in an algebraic torus.

On a Class of Double Cosets in Reductive Algebraic Groups

We study a class of double coset spaces RA\G1 × G2/RC , where G1 and G2 are connected reductive algebraic groups, and RA and RC are certain spherical subgroups of G1×G2 obtained by “identifying” Levi factors of parabolic subgroups in G1 and G2. Such double cosets naturally appear in the symplectic leaf decompositions of Poisson homogeneous spaces of complex reductive groups with the Belavin–Dri...
